About · Practice

A small firm,
by design.

Profit Builder was founded in 2009 by two operators who’d spent the decade prior running properties — not building decks about running them. Every engagement since has been led personally by one of the founding partners. No associates, no junior teams, no recycled playbooks.

The firm

Operators
advising operators.

Most consulting in the gaming industry comes from one of two places: large generalist firms that rotate analysts through casino projects between hospital and airline engagements, or boutiques selling a single proprietary methodology to every client.

We do neither. Every property gets a custom read because every property has its own mix, market, and culture — and we know the questions to ask because we’ve been in those chairs.

The firm is intentionally small. The work that’s worth doing is the work that benefits from senior attention end-to-end — so that’s the only kind we take.

Kyle Pottorff
Founding Partner

Kyle Pottorff

Kyle runs the marketing and player-data side of the practice — reinvestment modeling, segmentation, and trigger-based mail and digital programs built on what the player database actually says. He has led that work for Wildhorse Resort & Casino for the past decade. Before Profit Builder he ran database marketing for casinos in Colorado and Nevada — standing up two players-club loyalty programs, marketing kiosks, prospecting campaigns, and a hybrid email/direct-mail program that cut mail cost while lifting response rates.

How we work

Three rules,
held tight.

Rule 01

Engagements are scoped before signature.

We don’t take open-ended retainers. Every engagement has a written scope, a timeline, and a defined outcome. If the work is worth doing, it’s worth defining.

Rule 02

A founding partner runs every engagement.

No exceptions. The person you meet on day one is the person on the floor in week eight. Ownership and ops leadership deserve that continuity.

Rule 03

The numbers tell the truth, even when they shouldn’t.

The job is to surface what the data says — including the parts that don’t flatter the property, the prior decisions, or the consultant’s preferred conclusion. Ownership gets to decide from a clear read.
